RCCC Release Search

Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center, usually called RCCC, has a release process that is more specific than a generic county jail release. The facility gives an early gatehouse pickup window, then buses people without rides to the Main Jail downtown. A release search should therefore separate online custody status from the physical release location. Use the Sacramento sheriff inmate information system, SIRENS before release, the RCCC public line, the Main Jail line, Sacramento Superior Court, and CPRA records when the online release date and time are not enough.

The sheriff's RCCC materials describe a precise release routine: pickup parties should report to the gatehouse between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m.; the related release note says release occurs between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m.; and people without rides are transported by sheriff bus to the Main Jail and released downtown after 5:30 a.m. That timing makes RCCC different from many county facility pages. A person may be released in the records system while the practical pickup question still depends on whether they left through the gatehouse or by bus to 651 I Street.

RCCC also has a mixed custody role. Research materials identify it as county adult correctional center, sentenced jail custody, pretrial custody, parole-violator reception, and a state-prison transport point. It also holds people en route to other jurisdictions, federal prisoners under a Bureau of Prisons contract, and reciprocal county prisoners. For released-person research, this means that "released from RCCC" can mean community release, transfer to the Main Jail release point, transfer to another county or federal system, or movement toward CDCR custody. How to Confirm an RCCC Release

Start with the Sacramento sheriff search for a county-jail RCCC custody session. The sheriff inmate information system allows name and X-Ref searches, while the FAQ says that after release only release date and time remain public online. If the person is still in custody, use SIRENS from the custody detail page for custody-status notifications. If the release is expected that morning, phone confirmation may be more useful than refreshing a page.

  1. Search by name or X-Ref and note the custody location, projected release date if shown, and any instruction to call.
  2. Call RCCC at 916-874-1927 for facility-specific questions, especially gatehouse release timing and property-release instructions.
  3. Call the Main Jail information line at 916-874-6752 if the person was not picked up at RCCC or may have been bused downtown.
  4. Check Sacramento Superior Court criminal records to understand whether the release followed sentence completion, bail, a warrant recall, probation action, dismissal, or transfer.
  5. Submit a request through the sheriff NextRequest portal when you need a formal release date, release time, release manner, booking number, X-Ref, or transfer agency.

Do not use the CDCR state-prison search as the first step for ordinary RCCC releases. Use CDCR CIRIS when the court record, sheriff record, or facility context points to a state-prison commitment or transfer. Use the federal BOP locator when the RCCC record reflects a federal prisoner or federal hold. Use ICE ODLS only when the facts indicate immigration custody, because ODLS does not confirm a normal Sacramento jail release by itself.

RCCC property release is a separate practical issue. The sheriff page says property releases are processed daily from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and that the inmate must submit a property release form in advance for prompt release. Otherwise, forms completed at the gatehouse may be delayed. The public counter officer may estimate wait time and suggest returning later or the next day. If personal property is released, the entire package must be taken; clothing is not released unless the person is going to state prison.

The gatehouse timing also affects records follow-up. If no ride was present during the early release window, the physical release point may shift downtown even though RCCC was the custody facility.

RCCC is a county adult correctional center rather than a state prison, even though its population can include people being transported to state prison or another jurisdiction. It serves sentenced jail custody, pretrial custody, parole-violator reception, and transport-related roles. Those categories should not be collapsed into one release story.
